Pat Buchanan Fired from MSNBC, or Not?

Or will the hatemonger be back?

The fact that MSNBC still thinks there’s a real decision to make here tells me that they are cynically hoping that the furor dies down so they can slip him back on air later. After all is said and done, propagating a hater’s viewpoints as news is actually a greater evil than Pat’s books.

Pat Buchanan’s views (as expressed for decades on the air, in books, at VDARE and Townhall and Human Events) coincide so closely to the terrorist manifesto of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik that the real differences are somewhat immaterial.

The only real difference is the extremes to which they would personally go in order to defend the theoretically threatened white Christian (culture, civilization, tradition, ethnicity, race, and several other code and buzzwords that nativists all understand). I don’t believe that Pat has ever called for violence, but his words could easily lead crazy nativists and supremacists to conclude that extreme measures are needed to “defend” (their faith, civilization, traditions, ethnicity, etc.). Indeed, it’s the same logic used by fundamentalist extremists everywhere, and Pat just loves to feed it.

Bottom line: that MSNBC’s leaders are even considering allowing him back is just disgusting.

MSNBC’s top executive said Saturday that he hasn’t decided whether conservative commentator and author Pat Buchanan will be allowed back on the network.

Buchanan, a former GOP presidential candidate and a paid MSNBC contributor, hasn’t been on the network since the publication of his book “Suicide of a Superpower” last October. The book has chapters titled “The End of White America” and “The Death of Christian America” and its author argues that the United States is in the “Indian summer of our civilization.”

“When Pat was on his book tour, because of the content of the book, I didn’t think it should be part of the national dialogue much less part of the dialogue on MSNBC,” said MSNBC President Phil Griffin. The minority advocacy group Color of Change has circulated a petition urging MSNBC to fire Buchanan.

Buchanan did appear for an interview about his book in October on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” where host Sean Hannity said, “welcome out of exile.”

Griffin would not discuss the length of Buchanan’s contract with MSNBC or whether it would be renewed.
