Bill Nye Receives Death Threats After Mocking Christian Morality

via Michael Stone

Bill Nye mocks the intolerant views of conservative Christians when it comes to sexuality and all hell breaks loose.

After mocking gay conversion therapy favored by some conservative Christians on his new Netflix show “Bill Nye Saves the World,” the science educator is facing death threats from angry Christians.

Pink News reports on the violent reaction from some anti-LGBT Christians after watching an animated video from an episode from Nye’s new series, noting:

Several of the comments on the clip included direct death threats aimed at Nye.

The episode in question is entitled the “Sexual Spectrum” and uses ice cream “as part of a hysterical analogy on the intolerant views of Christians when it comes to sexuality.”

In the video, a vanilla ice cream cone (representing a straight Christian man) tries to to convince the rest of the ice cream cones that everyone should be vanilla just like him:

As a vanilla, I feel that I am the most natural of the ice creams; and therefore, the rest of you should just go ahead and also be vanilla. It’s the one true flavor.

Following the analogy, the message from the intolerant vanilla ice cream cone is clear: being gay, or being anything other than a heterosexual, cisgender, Christian, is wrong.

The cartoon is funny, and simple, and makes a good point, with a happy ending. Because in the end, all the different ice cream flavors jump into a bowl together. It is an ice cream orgy, and a good time is had by all. Even Mr. Vanilla enjoys himself in the end.

Not surprising, the sweet and lighthearted ice cream orgy has conservative Christians hot under the collar.

Huffington Post reports on some of the reactions:

Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro posted a video to his official Facebook page criticizing Nye’s analogy, noting, “There is no scientific basis for anything that is in this video… Just on a scientific basis, ice cream does not have genitalia.”

PJ Media columnist Megan Fox felt similarly. “The message here is clear (and not at all scientific): Christian, straight white people are bigots, racists and not even straight,” she wrote in a Tuesday column. “Bill Nye offers no proof of that, other than a poorly drawn cartoon about debauched ice cream.”

Bottom line: The truth hurts. The fact that conservative Christians can become so angry over a humorous video depicting “debauched ice cream” only reinforces the notion that their anti-gay Christian morality deserves to be mocked and ridiculed.

Bill Nye: Creationism Is ‘Raising A Generation Of Young People Who Can’t Think’

The biggest danger creationism plays, according to Bill Nye the “Science Guy,” is that it is raising a generation of children who “can’t think” and who “will not be able to participate in the future in same way” as those who are taught evolution.

Speaking on MidPoint, Nye said he blames an older generation of evangelicals “who have very strong conservative views” and who are “reluctant to let kids learn about evolution.” Their presence on school boards leads to debates over curriculum, Nye argued, which further inhibits schools’ ability to teach facts.

“Religion is one thing. People get tremendous comfort and community with their religions,” Nye said. “But whatever you believe, whatever deity or higher power you might believe in, the Earth is not 6,000 years old.”

Nye, who has a new book out titled “Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation,” recently participated in a debate with creationist Ken Ham, which some argued was a moment of embarrassment for the science community.

University of Chicago evolution professor Jerry A. Coyne called the debate “pointless and counterproductive.” The Guardian’s Pete Etchells wrote:

Scientific literacy is crucial for society to function effectively, which means that we can’t afford to be messing around with the way that it’s taught in the classroom or wasting our time with fruitless public debates.

Nye stood by the debate, however, saying he “stepped into the lion’s den” in order to spread awareness about the academic opportunities children are denied by being creationism.

“They will not have this fundamental idea that you can question things, that you can think critically, that you can use skeptical thought to learn about nature,” Nye told MidPoint. “These children have to suppress everything that they can see in nature to try to get a world view that’s compatible with the adults in who they trust and rely on for sustenance.”

Bill Nye Blasts Todd Akin, Challenges ‘Fucking Idiot’ to Debate

Bill Nye may still be The Science Guy, but he’s no longer Mr. Nice Guy.

During a live interview this morning with the Smithsonian Channel, the mild mannered science educator unloaded on U.S. Congressman Todd Akin, calling him “a fucking idiot” for accusing Nye of personally provoking Hurricane Issac.

Last week Nye uploaded a video to Youtube urging parents not to teach their children creationism. At a town hall campaign event yesterday, Akin used the video as an example of immoral behavior driving god to punish America through extreme weather.

Although reporters reached out to Nye for a statement yesterday, his first discussion of the matter came this morning at Smithsonian’s Washington D.C. headquarters.

Nye Got a Feeling…

The 56 year old star of the long-running “Bill Nye The Science Guy” was in the studio to promote his new documentary series focusing on the neuroscience of childhood development.

After briefly discussing his show, the Smithsonian anchors asked Nye about Akin’s recent accusation. The normally genial Nye wasted no time venting his rage about the comments:

“Look, these people they’re fucking retarded. Rape can’t cause pregnancy? Breastmilk cures homosexuality? I caused a hurricane by challenging creationism? Who can possibly take these people seriously anymore?”

The slightly uncomfortable anchors then tried to change the subject, but Nye persisted:

“It used to be these Republicans didn’t believe in global warming or evolution. That was bad enough. Now they don’t even believe in egg + sperm = baby. Where does Todd Akin think babies come from? Does he think there are separate storks for people who were raped and people who weren’t? ”

“Hey look over there! It’s the rape stork. It drops its babies directly at the orphanage.”

“He’s a fucking idiot. Just a plain fucking idiot. I’m sorry – I don’t say that word very often – but it happens to fit in this case. He’s just a fucking idiot.”

A Decent Proposal

As the stunned anchors hurriedly tried to wind the conversation down and cut to commercial, Nye stared directly into the camera and issued a challenge to his new-found rival:

“So Todd I got an offer for you. You and me. Any time. Any place. Debating science mano- a-mano. I’ll bring the facts, and you bring the Vaseline. Because your ass is gonna fucking need it when I’m done whipping.”

Nye apologized once more for his language before ripping off his microphone and walking off the set.

Representatives of the Smithsonian Channel say they have no comment on the incident.

Bill Nye could not be reached, but a since-deleted tweet on his Twiiter account posted shortly after the incident read:

“@ToddAkin Never enter the eye of Hurricane NYE!”

UPDATE: Readers report that The Bill Nye Meme has arrived.
